Our Under 15 A’s played a Lambton team desperate for a win after a slow start to the season
Having lost two players to injury, Harrison with a double broken wrist in the previous game and Sam Marshall with a sprained toe, the team seemed to lift up when Harry arrived to support us complete with cast. The game heralded the return for Seb who had been out for 6 weeks with a twisted knee.
The game started fast with Lambton pushing forward with speed and a serious determination. Lambton hit the first shot but Magic managed to scramble it clear with Beau hooking up with Sam Fuller to release the ball down the right side to Tyler who was immediately closed out by Lambton’s fast and strong sweeper.
Lambton continued to show determination winning all loose balls and when they shot from the right a struggle in the goal mouth saw the ball scrambled into our own goal and we went down 1-0.
Any attempts to attack were immediately cut down by Lambton who continued to be solid at the back. Seb’[s return was after 15 minutes and he looked strong and positive, no sign of any knee problems. Tom came on to try and give us some pace up front but Lambton’s sweeper was more than a match and seemed to be everywhere.
Lambton pushed forward again and with no pressure on the ball Lambton hit a great strike which Eli had no chance of stopping to go 2-0 up as we entered half time.
Second half was a much more level game and whilst most of the play was in the Lambton half, Magic could not get that final ball through with Lambton’s determination to throw bodies at the ball to block anything. Highlights were Dusty and Lachlan linking up and pushing down the left and Beau working very hard to push Alec up the right, in the end, Lachlan hit wide and Alec was pushed out by the fast defence. Tyler managed to get our first strike on target which was well handled by their keeper.
Our defence also found its feet with Riley, Seb and Alki clearing balls more efficiently. As always, Jorjas engine was running on high octane and she was covering the midfield nicely with James and Sam Fuller clearing to the wings.
After numerous attempts on goal a handball was spotted by the referee gave Magic a penalty, unfortunately as with our first penalty in the first game we were unable to take our chance with the keeper saving the shot well.
The deadlock was broken from the third corner we had forced in the second half with a returning Seb volleying an impossible ball screaming into the goal, he rushed back to the centre circle with the ball to keep the momentum up.
A solid effort from a luckless 15 A’s at the moment with the team yet to find the Magic!
Our 15 A’s play tonight against undefeated leaders Nelson Bay at Myer Park!
